Start with the hazard, not the product
Identify the task, exposure route, duration and environment before selecting PPE. The same product may not be suitable for every job.
Check compatibility and fit
Eye, face, hearing, respiratory and body protection may need to be worn together. Check that one item does not interfere with another.
Build inspection and replacement routines
Inspect PPE before use, keep reusable equipment clean and follow the manufacturer instructions for inspection, storage and replacement.
Train the user
Users should understand why PPE is required, how to wear it and its limitations.
